We’ve All Tried a New Year’s Resolution
Are you one of the millions of Americans who make a New Year’s resolution every year? I am. Or at least, I’ve tried.
Some years I wanted to do more. Other years I wanted to buy less, be more consistent, or finally stick with something long enough for it to matter. And like many people, I’ve also had plenty of resolutions that quietly faded by mid-January. Not because I didn’t care, but because real life got in the way.
Why Bingo Feels Different
Bingo-style vision boards and goal cards have become really popular for the new year, and for good reason: They feel lighter and more flexible than a single, rigid resolution. My 'lil bingo card builds on that idea, but with a very specific focus: everyday sustainability.
Why Resolutions Often Don’t Last
New Year’s resolutions tend to ask for big change, fast. They’re often built on all-or-nothing thinking, unrealistic expectations, and a burst of motivation that doesn’t always survive busy schedules, stress, or simple exhaustion. When “Quitter’s Day” (yes, that's a real day. 2nd Friday of January to be exact) rolls around, it’s rarely a surprise. Not because people failed, but because the system wasn’t designed to last.
Sustainability Doesn’t Have to Mean Perfection
If you’re someone who cares about sustainability, this probably feels familiar. Wanting to waste less or live more intentionally often comes with pressure to do everything right (like aiming for “zero waste” overnight), which can quickly feel unachievable in real life.
We need a Gentler Way to Start
I wanted a different way to approach the new year. One that didn’t rely on guilt, tracking, or grand promises. Something that left room for real life. That’s where this Sustainability Bingo card comes in.
Instead of committing to one big resolution, the bingo card breaks things down into small, practical actions. Each square is something you can try once or experiment with for a short time. You get to choose what fits your life, skip what doesn’t, and move on without feeling like you’re behind. There are no deadlines and no rules beyond the honor system.
The Goal Isn’t to Finish the Card
It really isn't. It’s to notice what sticks. That’s what makes this approach different. Habits tend to last when they’re flexible and when they don’t demand perfection from day one. If one or two squares turn into something you keep doing into February (or beyond!) that’s already a success. And if the card ends up half-finished on your fridge, that’s okay too. Awareness doesn’t disappear just because a checklist isn’t complete.
Small Changes Add Up
Ideally, this bingo card helps sustainability feel less intimidating and more doable. Maybe it leads to fewer impulse purchases, a bit less waste at home, or simply a pause before the next decision. Small, meaningful changes add up over time, especially when they don’t feel forced.

Feel free to print it, share it with your workplace or community group, or pass it along to someone who wants to waste less without turning it into another short-lived resolution.
So here’s your permission slip for 2026: Start small. Try one square. Skip the rest if you need to. Waste less doesn’t have to mean doing everything. It just means doing something — when it fits, when it feels right, and when it actually lasts.
Here’s to a new year built on intention, not pressure.
Together, let's start a habit of wasting less.
With love for small steps and everyday sustainability,
